10 Night Cruise on Norwegian’s “Star” – including an overnight in Reykjavik

Day 1

FLIGHT TO ICELAND:

Iceland is considered a photographer’s dream destination. Its terrain is visually stunning, offering views of lava flows, hot springs, unspoiled nature – and colorful, fascinating cities like Reykjavik. Today we fly north, across the southern tip of Newfoundland over the Labrador Sea.
Day 2

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND – BLUE LAGOON – CITY TOUR:

Our flight arrives this morning. Upon arrival we transfer to the Blue Lagoon, a modern wonder of the world tucked away in a jet-black lava field. The geothermally heated waters of this famous spa are renowned for their skin healing properties. Wispy plumes of steam rise off its milky-blue waters as mountains tower on the horizon. This afternoon we arrive in Reykjavik and are joined by a local guide for a tour of Reykjavik. As the world’s most northerly capital, this city brings together quaint villages, exciting museums and restaurants that rival Europe’s finest. We overnight in Reykjavik this evening.
Day 3

SET SAIL:

We depart today and set sail aboard the Norwegian Star on an unforgettable cruise through Iceland and Greenland.
Day 4

GRUNDARFJÖRÐUR, ICELAND:

Grundarfjordur is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, including the iconic Kirkjufell mountain and surrounding waterfalls.
Day 5

AKUREYRI, ICELAND:

Sitting along the shores of one of the most breathtaking fjords in Iceland, Akureyri reflects the heart of Icelandic folk culture. Visit the museums, hike along the extraordinary vistas, or explore the botanical gardens. Shop in one of the charming boutiques and then catch a glimpse of the most northerly 18-hole golf course in the world. After you’ve worked up an appetite, feast on some Nordic specialties like smoked lamb and fresh fish and then indulge in an Icelandic fried pastry.
Day 6

ISAFJORDUR, ICELAND:

Continuing our explorations through Iceland, we spend the day in the largest town in Iceland’s remote Westfjords’s region, Ísafjörður. A magnet for outdoor enthusiasts, this little town boasts an enchanting fjord ideal for watersports and a mountainous landscape. Originally a church site and a 16th century trading post, the town is home to wonderful museums and historic sites for those wishing to learn about the region’s rich heritage and local culture.
Day 7

AT SEA:

Sailing from Iceland to Greenland, we have time to explore and enjoy our Dawn-class Norwegian cruise ship, Star. Indulge in a refreshing swim or ice cream treat at the Oasis Pool. Let yourself be pampered with a hot-stone massage at Mandara Spa. Then finish off your day with a feast at the help-yourself buffet or one of the specialty restaurants.
Day 8

PRINCE CHRISTIAN SUND, GREENLAND:

Today we will be cruising through Prince Christian Sund, which offers breathtaking views of towering glaciers, rugged cliffs, and picturesque fjords, creating an unforgettable sailing experience.
Day 9

PAAMIUT, GREENLAND:

Located on the southwestern shores of Greenland at the mouth of Kvanefjord, Paamiut is nestled between the mountains and the sea. Inhabited since about 1500 B.C., the town was founded in 1742 upon a thriving fishing industry. Today the small town acts as a base from which outdoor adventures abound. From wildlife tours where you might encounter whales and kayaking to birding and hiking in the Blue Mountains, we can all find something to enjoy.
Day 10

NUUK, GREENLAND:

As the country’s capital and largest city, Nuuk sits at the mouth of an expansive fjord in southwest Greenland. Learn about the area’s storied past at the Greenland National Museum, and then discover the modern boutiques, vibrant cafes and delicious local cuisine as you explore the city and its rainbow-colored wooden houses facing the sea. Or take to the water on a boat or sailing tour in Nuup Kangerlua – one of the world’s largest fjord systems – where you may encounter whales, seals, walruses and more.
Day 11-12

AT SEA:

We have explored the fertile, fiery lands of Iceland and carved our way across the frozen icy lands of Greenland. Now we begin our sail back to where our journey began, Reykjavik. Indulge in all-day luxury and the cool breezes of the sea aboard the Star during our sail.
Day 13

FLIGHT HOME:

This morning we bid farewell to the Vikings and volcanoes of Iceland and the vast tundra and immense glaciers of Greenland and board our flight home.
